New York City

For the first time during this pandemic, and in one of the first times in city history, New York City would be hosting a broadcasted (radio, web, municipal tv, social media streaming), interactive public meeting where the public is the focus. “A View From You” is a new ongoing broadcast series that differs from other traditional town-halls, in that the format encourages public officials to ask questions of the audience in a manner that fosters actionable insights. During this “reverse” town hall, our panelists will ask you questions and capture your insights.

The purpose of the event is two-fold. New Yorkers, especially small business owners, feel paralyzed when it comes to making decisions on how to reopen and want to better understand guidance, rules, laws and recent legislation as they pertain to reopening. The City wants to provide them with answers, but also wants to get input from stakeholders who will be the attendees and participants of the program. Participants, will help inform the City, which will use the information gathered from this interactive event to better assist small businesses; for example, by influencing future City guidelines for reopening and will help inform the City’s future events so that they are better catered to the needs of our local business owners.

OATH is the City’s independent administrative court where all regulatory summonses are filed for hearings; it is the forum where people go to resolve summonses that they are issued by City enforcement agencies. OATH has a vast understanding of the regulatory landscape and has a unique knowledge of the rules and laws that business owners are subject to and why those laws are on the books.

SBS is the City agency responsible for assisting businesses and has special programs in place to address reopening and has many answers to questions that business owners need to hear. SBS is currently taking a leading role in the formation of guidance on reopening businesses in New York City.

Ariel Palitz, head of City’s Office of Nightlife, will join Commissioner Kletter to continue the conversation after the first hour.
